Meet Mia, the AI chief of staff I talk to every day
What an AI assistant that lives on my own computer does for me, and what it is not allowed to do.
Mia is an AI assistant I built to run the boring parts of my day. She lives on my own Mac, not in someone else's app, and I talk to her out loud or by message. Her name stands for Multifunctional Intelligence Assistant.
What she does
- Sends me one short message each morning: my calendar, the mail that needs an answer, reminders and bills, what I should film today and what is waiting for my approval.
- Keeps my calendar and my reminders.
- Writes first drafts of captions and scripts in my voice, and puts them in a review queue. I read them before anything goes out.
- Finds the places I ask about, and shows them on a map.
What she is not allowed to do
- She does not post anything without a draft I can approve.
- She does not spend money, sign anything or delete anything without me confirming first.
- She does not write to anyone in a joking or flirty tone. That is only how she talks to me.
Why build it
Software that works for you should know your habits and keep your data close. I would rather have an assistant that learns how I work than one that starts from zero every time I open it.
I will write more about how she is built as it settles. For now, she is a work in progress, and I treat her like one.
